IFAN FRENCH AWARD EVENING
Friday, 24 April 2009
The French Embassy would like to raise a toast to Indian students with an educational experience in France in the past, present or who look forward to it in the near future and thus has organized an evening dedicated to them on 27th April 2009 at 1900 to be held at the Embassy of France, New Delhi

This evening is part of the framework of Indo-French University Cooperation that aspires to establish a network of former Indian students in France and former French students in India, called the Indo French Alumni Network (IFAN). The alumni network is soon to be granted the status of an Indian Association. The evening of April 27- “IFAN French Award Evening” – will serve as a prologue to a grand celebration planned for the alumni in Bangalore in January 2010 as part of “Bonjour India” – Festival of France in India. The evening shall witness the creation of the “Council of Patrons” bringing together eminent people from the business and academic world having accomplished a part of their studies in France.

This evening is thus an occasion to recognize and value the dedication of all those associated with the !FAN: !FAN Patrons who are representatives of an extensive network across India, their partners within the Embassy, the French Trade Commission, and the industry. This alumni network, a rich kaleidoscope of cultural and professional diversity, is a manifestation of globalization and serves to facilitate exchanges between the academic, cultural and professional worlds.

A persistent dialogue between these partners has resulted in giving shape to the constitution of status of IFAN Association in order to forge better links between the old and new alumni, between institutions of higher education and French and Indian industries. This will serve as a shot in the arm for the academic and research cooperation between our two countries and extend the filed of our activities of promotion in all states of India.

The network IFAN was created through the efforts of CampusFrance in association with the alumni and the support of the Embassy of France with the aim of strengthening academic cooperation between Indo-French research centers and collaborations, the network 16 Alliance Françaises and the French Consulates. The objective of France is to triple the number of Indian students in France by 2012, a statement made by the President of the French Republic, Mr. Nicolas Sarkozy, during his official visit to India in January 2008.

On the occasion, the Ambassador of France to India, His Excellency Mr. Jerome Bonnafont, will present the “Palmes académiques”, prestigious national awards to two renowned academicians for their outstanding contribution to the Indo-French academic and scientific cooperation: Prof. Dayanand Dongaonkar, Secretary General of the AIU (the Association of Indian Universities) & of IFCU (Indo-French Consortium of Universities) and Prof. Baril Barid Bhattacharya, Vice Chancellor of Jawahar Lal University(JNU).

The French Embassy will further award 6 scholarships to the students of Alliance Française of Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Pune. These students have been preselected by a local jury among the best students of the network of 16 Alliances Françaises in India (22 000 students in 2008), based on the quality of their projects for higher studies in France.

Scholarships co- financed by the Krishnakriti Foundation (Hyderabad) and the Embassy of France will also be awarded to 2 students of fine arts.

The grand prize of "Fly to France” organized by the company E Nova: a trip to France for 2 people will also be handed out to the winners. The winners won a quiz on France organized in partnership with the region ‘Pays de la Loire’ in France – a project partner in teaching French online through the online learning tool “Click On French". The region will host the awardees.(other sponsors: Air France and Oasis World)

The evening will conclude with the screening of 3 works of Indian artists !FAN members, Subodh Gupta, Anjolie Ela Menon and Kanchen Chander, accompanied by French Songs interpreted by young singers who have studied in France, Piyush Wadhera and Vasundhara Vidalur (participants at the 'Indian Idol' who have already performed in the Festival de la Rochelle 2008)
